Surface-Level Escalator Step Tread Cleaning Methodology

A structured, surface-only cleaning approach intended for engineering review within vertical transportation & facility maintenance environments

The EscaTEQ Method is a company-developed, voluntary framework for low-moisture, surface-only escalator cleaning.

It is intended to complement OEM maintenance and does not replace existing maintenance, safety procedures, or statutory requirements.

Method Definition

  • Surface-only cleaning approach applied to the escalator step band
  • Low-moisture application
  • Cleaning sequence may be defined by pad saturation (use of a single pad until visibly loaded with soil)
  • Rotation defined as one complete circulation of the escalator step band (one pass)
  • Cleaning sequences are not time-based and may consist of multiple rotations depending on contamination level
  • Frequency determined by traffic profile
  • Condition classification (A / B / C)
  • The method is intended for application under site-approved operating conditions.

  • Not a replacement for OEM procedures
  • Not a mechanical or invasive cleaning method
  • Not a restoration process
  • Not a standard or mandated practice

This framework is introduced for engineering, consultant, and maintenance-provider evaluation and is not a formal standard or prescribed specification. Its relevance and applicability should be determined through engineering, consultant, maintenance-provider, or facility-led review and, where appropriate, controlled site evaluation

Consultants, maintenance providers, OEM service teams, and facility engineering personnel may assess this approach by reviewing the method documentation and, where relevant, observing its performance within a defined operational setting.

Where relevant, findings may be formalized into a co-authored case study, with EscaTEQ supporting pilot execution and documentation.

This is an early-stage, company-developed framework provided for professional review, critique, and validation.

Initial pilots are typically limited to 1–2 escalators and are designed to minimize operational disruption.
